I liked many of the the things they mentioned in this book, some of which I am trying to implement this semester:

- an outside-of-class seminar where I invited students to "go beyond" the course-work, where we would investigate other more-advanced concepts.
- grading programming assignments on an increasing scale - i.e., first assignments would not be worth as many points as the last assignment

In addition, I was fascinated by some of the "motivation" of students - something I have been working at trying to improve this semester.

In summary, I have turned both of my classes into a "question-based-style" format, where I lecture much less and pose most of the material as questions that gets the students involved.
